China is still dealing with the heavy aftermath of a blast that shook the city of Tianjin earlier this month, and to find out just how much sh*t they’re still in, authorities are using caged animals as test subjects.
Cages filled with rabbits, pigeons, and chickens are currently being used to see just how bad the Chinese city’s conditions are, and whether or not it’s actually safe for anything with a pulse to live there:
Naturally people are pretty pissed about it, especially considering thousands of fish have already washed up on the shore, proving that current conditions are less that utopian.
The blast, which unleashed 700 tons of sodium cyanide into the air, made the surrounding area a wasteland, and you don’t need animals to prove it.
PETA’s UK director Mimi Bekhechi made a statement shortly after photos of the animals surfaced online:
“Technology eliminated the use of animals as ‘canaries in the mines’ long, long ago, so to expose animals to chemical poisoning by placing them inside tiny, cramped cages on the Tianjin wasteland is cruel, primitive and just wrongheaded.”
Good point. Not to mention, the supposed test is bound to be deadly.
