NBA To Experiment With 44-Minute Game This Weekend

There are some people who believe that sports games are lasting too long. The NBA will try an idea this coming weekend to shorten game times on the court. The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics will play a 44-minute preseason game on Sunday as opposed to the normal 48 minutes.
This idea comes from some suggestions from coaches to see if the shorter game flows better than what has been going on. There will be two mandatory timeouts per quarter as opposed to three timeouts during a 48-minute game. It will bring the NBA closer to how the college and international games are played as well where it is just 40 minutes.
The most important thing will be how the fans react to it. If it is positive, there is no doubt that the league will think about doing this on a full-time basis. The players will have a lot to say as well probably especially considering that they will have four fewer minutes to score points. It is a smart idea by the NBA to be proactive instead of reactive. This weekend will be a big test for the 44-minute game.
