This new trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes wants you to know that Caesar (from, you know, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) has taken his monkey cohorts to a place where “they created a home” and “lived in peace”–until, that is, some pesky humans who survived a worldwide fatal virus come along to say things like, “We mean no harm!”
From what we can tell, the bad news is that it’s another post-Apocalyptic movie where Gary Oldman is one of the last human survivors, and you might remember how badly he wanted to mess up things in The Book of Eli. Yeah. That guy. From what we can tell, Gary Oldman is at it again, except maybe now he’s out to avenge the death of his family while screwing up Caesar’s happy attempts to allow humans to coexist with the world’s (or at least America’s) few remaining humans.
So we’re still setting up the futuristic world of Planet of the Apes that will eventually be discovered by astronaut Charlton Heston (in the 1968 classic) or Mark Wahlberg (in Tim Burton’s pointless 2001 remake). That pretty much makes this a proper remake of 1972’s Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, which was originally set in the future year of 1991.
Things seem a lot more epic with this one, but we’re going to feel pretty cheated if there isn’t some kind of Gorilla General who doesn’t balance out Gary Oldman’s bad human. Check out the action for yourself, and decide for yourself if you’re lining up for tickets on July 11th–assuming that won’t be all traitorous to humans…
