Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kwanza Jones Dance in Padres Postgame Celebration

The San Diego Padres’ locker room was absolutely lit after they finished off the Chicago Cubs in the NL Wild Card round. And team owner Kwanza Jones wasn’t just watching from the sidelines — she was right in the middle of it.

Reporter Marty Caswell caught the moment on video and shared it on social media: Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. dancing with Jones during the clubhouse celebration after San Diego swept the Cubs on Wednesday night.

On the field, Tatis went 2-for-7 against the Cubs, with a home run, one RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base over the series.

This isn’t the first time Jones has celebrated alongside her players this season.

Jones and her husband, José E. Feliciano, took over the Padres back in August — MLB owners unanimously approved their $3.9 billion purchase on Aug. 17, making it the richest franchise sale in league history. Jones became MLB’s first Black woman to hold a majority ownership stake, while Feliciano serves as the team’s control person under league rules.

The two have quickly embraced the fanbase, and the players have embraced them right back. When the Padres clinched their playoff spot at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 24, Tatis danced with Jones on the infield grass. That same night, a video of Feliciano doing a beer bong with pitcher Walker Buehler went viral.

San Diego closed out the Wild Card series with a 4-1 win in Game 2 at Petco Park, capping off a sweep that continued their hot streak — the Padres were one of the best teams in baseball throughout September.

Next up: the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS (National League Division Series).

Game 1 is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, in Milwaukee, with San Diego looking to carry its postseason momentum — and clubhouse energy — into the next round.
