Ariana Grande is stepping away from the spotlight. The move comes after years of relentless speculation about her health and weight — chatter that’s apparently reached a breaking point.
A Tour’s End, and a Planned Retreat
The Academy Award-nominated actress and Grammy-winning singer will pull back from what her team calls “public visibility” once her Eternal Sunshine Tour wraps up on September 1st.
It’s not just the tour stirring things up. Grande’s music video for her song “Petal” dropped recently, and it only added fuel to an already burning fire.
Just look at the comments section.
“At this point, I’m judging her team, friends, and family. This is insane,” reads the top comment on the “Petal” video.
Another fan wrote: “It’s not about wanting the old Ariana back. It’s about wanting her to be healthy.”
A third chimed in, relieved to see others voicing the same worry: “So happy to see people in this comment section who are also concerned and not act like nothing is wrong.”
Grande’s Team Responds
Grande’s representatives addressed the situation directly in a statement to People. They pointed to “endless, ongoing public scrutiny” as the driving force behind her decision to step back.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the rep said.
They were quick to note the tour itself hasn’t been the problem — quite the opposite, actually.
“This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
A Broadway Role, Shelved
The break isn’t just about public appearances. Grande has also dropped out of the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. She was set to star alongside her Wicked co-star, Jonathan Bailey, when the production opens at London’s Barbican Centre next summer.
That’s one less commitment on her plate — but her break from the public eye might not last as long as fans expect.
Focker-In-Law Looms on the Horizon
Grande has a starring role lined up in Focker-In-Law, the upcoming sequel to Meet the Parents. The film hits theaters on November 25th, and the first trailer already positions her as co-lead alongside Ben Stiller.
Here’s the catch: with 363 million followers on Instagram — making hers the seventh-biggest account in the world — Grande is a marketing asset few studios would let sit quietly. She’ll almost certainly be contractually obligated to promote the film before it opens, break or no break.
