Drake showed up as the surprise headliner at this weekend’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately for Drake, he was not the special surprise appearance the fans were expecting and his set quickly went south.
Fans had been speculating that Frank Ocean would be the unannounced headliner, so when it was Drake that took the stage there was plenty of displeasure and confusion.
“They told me to come out and maybe do, like, two or three songs for y’all tonight but I’mma ask your permission, because I know this is your festival, I’mma ask your permission if I can stay up here and turn up with you for a little longer tonight,” Drake said to the crowd.
Soon after, Drake wasn’t feeling the energy from the crowd and asked whether he should continue performing again. The crowd wasn’t having it and there was a loud negative reaction with Drake ultimately being booed off the stage.
“If you wanna keep going, I will keep going tonight,” Drake said before turning to walk off. “Well, look, it’s been love. Thank you for having me.”
And that wasn’t all.
Despite Drake showing up as the surprise headliner, there was still some hope that Frank Ocean would appear. When it finally hit the fans that there was going to be no Frank Ocean performance, some were visibly upset.
Fans who were in attendance took to the internet to explain their negative reaction, which apparently stemmed from the confusion that Drake was not the final act of the night. But really, do you think Drake is going to surprise fans at Camp Flog Gnaw if he’s not the headliner?
