Jake Wascher, a 21-year-old student at the University of Hartford, is in police custody after a stabbing incident on Sunday, March 31. According to reports, Wascher is accused of stabbing two fellow students in a dorm room while working on a group project.
Wascher was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of attempted murder.
“Police say the three students were acting out a movie scene as a class project in a university apartment when Jake Wascher began stabbing both students,” Amy Hudak of WTNH reported.
“He then ran and hid in the woods for nearly two hours.”

Almost two hours after the stabbings, a patrol officer saw someone who matched Wascher’s description near the wood line. After seeing the officer, Wascher went into the woods before he surrendered and was arrested.
He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Hartford on Monday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m.
Wascher did not previously have a criminal record.
“The University of Hartford campus community is deeply saddened by the serious incident involving the assault of two students on campus this afternoon,” the university said in a statement.
Hartford police Lt. Paul Cicero said the two victims were a 19-year-old commuter student and a 21-year-old student who lives on campus.
Per Western Mass News, the 21-year-old victim was stabbed in the chest once and in the back four times. He is listed in stable condition. The 19-year-old victim underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition after being stabbed once in the chest and once in the back.
