LSU football player Tae Provens has been accused of raping a “blacked out” woman at his apartment on campus in Baton Rouge. The incident allegedly took place on Sunday, March 24, and Provens was eventually booked on a third-degree rape charge on Wednesday, March 27, according to the Times-Picayune.
The woman claims that she was walking to use the restroom in Provens’ apartment and that he had followed her into the room. At that point, she vaguely remembers her shirt coming off and trying to hold onto her underwear as they were being taken off. The woman says that she tried to tell Provens “no,” but he continued to sexually assault her from behind.
“We take any and all allegations like these seriously, and currently, this is a law enforcement investigation. Once the law enforcement component is completed, the Office of Student Advocacy & Accountability and the Title IX office will conduct their investigation as well. Provens entered the NCAA transfer portal on March 21, and since that time, he has not participated in team activities,” LSU spokesperson Ernie Ballard said in a statement.
“At LSU, we’re committed to ending sexual violence and maintaining a community of respect, and an alleged incident like this goes against everything we stand for within our community. Our thoughts go out to the victim in this incident and every resource available through the university is being offered through the LSU CARE Team.”
Provens had recently entered the NCAA transfer protocol. He played in just two games in 2018, rushing for 13 yards on four carries. Taking advantage of a new NCAA rule to save a year of eligibility, Provens redshirted.
