Scott Van Pelt was born on August 4th, 1966 in Brookeville, Maryland. Van Pelt spent a lot of his childhood in and around the Washington D.C. area. Scott always had a love for sports growing up. Van Pelt imagined himself having a career in the sports industry at a young age and began preparing. After he graduated from Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, Van Pelt went on to the University of Maryland in 1988. Scott discovered his love for radio, television, and film. Once he realized he could combine his love of sports with his love of television he was unstoppable. Soon after receiving his degree, Van Pelt began his career in sportscasting at WTTG-TV part of the Fox network.
In 1990, Scott went to work for the Golf Channel. This is where he worked from 1995 to 2000. His position was as a studio host for some of the Golf Channel’s signature programs. In 2001 he left the channel to head to ESPN and live out his childhood dream. This is where Scott found his place in SportsCenter.
Van Pelt became one of the network’s top golf correspondents. Scott covered major tournaments, including the Masters. He also became a favored radio personality for ESPN Radio. Van Pelt co-hosted Tirico and Van Pelt alongside Mike Tirico. Following that show’s cancellation, Van Pelt received his own three-hour program block, titled The Scott Van Pelt Show in 2009.

ESPN renamed the Scott Van Pelt Show as SVP & Russillo in October of 2012. Van Pelt is currently a studio present for Friday night college football on the ESPN network. Van Pelt has also taken on a virtual reality career by appearing as a commentator in golf video games. He’s been featured on EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Scott even tried his hand at comedy in Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am.
In May 2015, Van Pelt announced that he would leave his radio show on ESPN to work full time as a solo anchor for the midnight-edition of SportsCenter. The midnight show he took part in reviewed the sports events from the day and included impromptu commentary from Van Pelt. This allowed Scott to use his radio skills to their full potential.
