Scarlett Johansson is one of the highest-grossing actresses of all time in North America, with her movies earning more than $3.6 billion. But that’s what happens when you make your film debut in 1994 and quickly rise to the top of Hollywood’s A-list. But in her 20-plus year career, has Johansson been nominated and won any awards of note? Let’s take a look so you can impress your snobby friends at the next cocktail party.

In 2004, Scarlett Johansson scored two Golden Globes nominations. The leading lady was up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama (Girl with a Peal Earring) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical (Lost in Translation).
The Golden Globes are known for tweaking their categories which is why Lost in Translation, which does have many moments of levity but is more of a drama, snuck into the Comedy or Musical category. Johansson’s work in the Oscar-winning film was especially praised with The New York Times’ Elvis Mitchell writing, “At 18, [Johansson] gets away with playing a 25-year-old woman by using her husky voice to test the level of acidity in the air … Ms. Johansson is not nearly as accomplished a performer as Mr. Murray, but Ms. Coppola gets around this by using Charlotte’s simplicity and curiosity as keys to her character.”

In 2005, Johansson received another Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama (A Love Song for Bobby Long). In the movie, Johansson plays the daughter of a deceased lounge singer whose house Bobby Long (John Travolta) uses for his all-day drinking binges, When Johansson’s character shows up to reclaim the property, she forms an unlikely bond with Long.

The following year, Johansson scored her last Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Match Point). The film was a crime drama in which Johansson played a jealous and jilted lover who threatens her fling’s marriage and life. Written and directed by Woody Allen, Match Point showcased a different side of Johansson that critics had yet to see. French writer Jean-Baptiste Morain described her performance as “impeccable.”

Johansson has been nominated for four Golden Globes but is yet to be crowned a winner. However, at just 32, she has plenty of time to continue dominating Hollywood.
