A University of Central Florida fraternity has been suspended after one of the fraternity’s brothers was accused of holding a gun to the head of a blindfolded pledge.
According to documents released by the school, as the pledges of Alpha Epsilon Pi laid on the floor blindfolded, one of the actives members “took out a rifle and racked it,’’ an anonymous student complained in a February 9 email to the University of Central Florida Police Department.
In an email written to to the school’s police department, a student claims that after one of the blindfolded pledges made a comment about the gun not being real, the active member then placed the barrel up to the pledge’s head and asked him if he “thought it was real.”
“It was reported to the brothers for the case to be reviewed within our fraternity to see what action to take,” the student wrote in the email. “I’m sure they won’t report this outside of the fraternity.”
UCF suspended the fraternity until further notice, however they allowed AEPi to continue holding chapter meetings with school staff monitoring.
In an email, Alpha Epsilon Pi spokesman Jonathan Pierce said:
“This was not a condoned action by the chapter. Rather, it represents the actions of a rogue member who, again, has been suspended from the fraternity pending his permanent removal. Our staff continues to work with the UCF administration and our chapter leaders to ensure that this type of behavior never happens again. Hazing has no place in our fraternity.”
This comes just a couple weeks after UCF had to suspend Phi Delta Theta for hazing.
The UCF chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded in 2000 and currently has 61 members.
