Usually, I’m pretty tough of athletes that act the way Demarcus Cousins has in the past. But for whatever reason, I’ve always gotten this ‘misunderstood’ vibe from Demarcus Cousins. Sure, his antics in games are outrageous, but they’re never vicious. He’s just an emotional dude who needs to learn how to check those emotions from time to time. Plus, my man was in f*cking Sacramento. Imagine being a rich & famous basketball player and being stuck in the burbs. Of allllll the fantastic cities there are in California, you’re stuck in the lame ass capital.
What I’m trying to say is that I’ve kind of always known that Boogie Cousins was a good dude. However, I did NOT expect this type of reaction from him.
Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night, and on the next night, had to say goodbye to the friends and families he had met during his time there. He got emotional, quick.
“My love for this city has never changed,” he said, his voice wavering. He turned from the crowd and appeared to be choked up. “My love for this city has never changed. Even though I’m gone, it’ll still be the same. You know, I’m still lookin’ out for these kids. Every family in this city matters to me; every soul in this city matters to me.
“Everything’s the same. I’m just not in a Kings uniform anymore, which is OK, because, you know, the love is still here. It’s still gonna go on.”
