Petra Kvitova is a hot and successful Czech tennis player. Once ranked #3 in the world, Petra has won the Wimbledon twice–beating out Maria Sharapova in 2011, and then Eugenie Bouchard in 2014. Fun fact: when Petra won the 2011 Wimbledon she became the first person born in the 1990’s to win a Grand Slam Tournament.
In addition to winning matches on the court, Petra serves as a great role-model for her attitude and composure. She’s won the WTA’s Sportsmanship Award five out of the past six years. Petra also won the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, among a long list of other trophies and tournaments. At the time of this article’s publication, she is listed as the #11 player in the WTA.
Recently, Petra was the victim in a seemingly-random attack in her home. The attacker entered her home under the guise of checking the electric meter, then stabbed her in the hand, and ran off with $200 in cash. The stabbing slashed some tendons in her left hand, the hand which she plays with.
