New Browns Show Casts Law & Order’s Stabler as Head Coach

The Cleveland Browns are about to become prestige television. Hulu’s new scripted series centered on the franchise, titled The Land, arrives this winter — timed perfectly to fill that NFL-shaped hole fans feel every offseason.

The Land premieres on Hulu the day after Super Bowl LXI, landing on Monday, February 15. Christopher Meloni plays Danny Roarke, a fictional Browns head coach fighting for his job. A teaser promoting the show leans hard into that post-Super Bowl timing, with the tagline: “When the game is over, the real drama begins.”

This isn’t some knockoff football drama with made-up teams like the “New York Pilots.” The NFL is co-producing The Land, which means real league branding, real uniforms, and presumably real attention to how an actual front office operates.

Dan Fogelman — the guy behind This Is Us — created the series, so expect plenty of emotional family drama woven into the football storylines. That’s kind of his thing.

The Plot: A Coach, His Son, and a Franchise in Flux

Roarke gets what reports are calling “one last chance” to save his coaching career and turn the Browns around. Complicating things: his fate is tied to a newly drafted Ohio State quarterback. That quarterback also happens to be his son.

Family tension doesn’t stop there.

William H. Macy plays the team’s owner, and he’s dealing with his own succession problem — deciding which of his two daughters should inherit control of the franchise once he steps aside. It’s part football drama, part boardroom power struggle.

Social media noticed the casting right away, particularly Meloni’s history. Fans immediately connected him to his most famous role — NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, a part he played from 1991 to 2011, then returned to multiple times between 2021 and 2025.

The joke landed given Watson’s own well-documented legal troubles — and given how often Meloni’s past roles seem to follow him into new projects.

A Deep Cast — and Real NFL Draft Footage

Beyond Meloni and Macy, the cast includes some recognizable names: Mandy Moore, Chace Crawford, Sam Corlett, Chloe Bennet, Bridget Moynahan, and Omar Epps.

The show already made headlines once this year.

Production crews filmed scenes at the actual 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, blending real draft coverage with the show’s fictional storyline — a detail that suggests Hulu and the NFL want this to feel as authentic as possible, rather than some glossy, disconnected drama that just borrows football as a backdrop.

Whether The Land can replicate the success of other sports dramas remains to be seen. But with Fogelman’s track record for emotional storytelling and the NFL’s direct involvement, it’s positioned to be more than just another offseason distraction.
