Ryan Reynolds has had a rough stretch lately, thanks to all the legal drama surrounding his wife Blake Lively. But at least he’s still got Deadpool to lean on when things get heavy.
At Fanatic Fest earlier this month, Reynolds confirmed something fans have been hoping for — a new Deadpool movie is officially in development. That’s not exactly shocking given how well Deadpool & Wolverine did at the box office.

Shawn Levy, who directed Deadpool & Wolverine, probably won’t be back for this one though. He just got announced as the director for the Ryan Gosling Ghost Rider movie over the weekend.
That Ghost Rider news wasn’t the only big reveal. The cast of Avengers: Doomsday also hit the stage to build hype for the film. Reynolds wasn’t up there with them — but he was there. Somewhere in the crowd. In full Deadpool costume.

So what does this mean for Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Quite a bit, actually.
Here’s how Ryan Reynolds’ appearance at San Diego Comic-Con could hint at Deadpool’s MCU future
Reynolds even grabbed the mic at one point during the presentation, still in character. “Longtime listener, first time caller. I’m a huge fan,” he said. “I’m not wearing a Doom mask over this mask because I don’t want to ruin the lines of my Canadian tuxedo.”
Was He Actually On Set?
Here’s the thing — that moment happened while the film’s actual stars (Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, and others) were standing right there on stage. Seems like an odd choice to hand a mic to a character who has nothing to do with the movie.
Reynolds previously insisted he hadn’t “stepped foot on set.” Given the rumors swirling around and now this Comic-Con appearance, that claim is looking pretty shaky.
The Suit Might Be a Bigger Clue Than the Cameo
Spoiler warning: everything below gets into speculation territory about Avengers: Doomsday‘s plot. Proceed carefully if you’d rather not know.
Reynolds’ costume wasn’t the usual red-and-black Deadpool suit. It was gray — Reynolds jokingly calls it “Jeanpool,” since it’s actually made of denim, though that’s not always obvious in photos.
That gray suit isn’t random.
It’s a direct nod to Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña’s Uncanny X-Force comic run, which kicked off back in October 2010. In that story, Wolverine led a black-ops kill squad — Psylocke, Fantomex, and Deadpool all included — and they all wore matching black-and-gray uniforms.
Fans have been speculating for a while now that this gray suit is teasing an X-Force-focused Deadpool film down the line. It would also give Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine a solid reason to stick around for another movie.
There’s more. This lines up with earlier leaks claiming that early in Avengers: Doomsday, Deadpool and Wolverine get sent into Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man universe — supposedly to stop some kind of multiversal incursion. The rumored outcome? Maguire’s Spider-Man doesn’t survive the encounter.
Maguire’s return as Spider-Man goes back to 2021’s No Way Home, and a sizzle reel featuring him also played during Marvel’s Hall H panel at this year’s Comic-Con.
