Texas A&M’s 2026 season ended earlier than most expected. The Aggies came into the year ranked No. 25 – a program still finding its footing after head coach Jim Schlossnagle left for rival Texas following the team’s run to the College World Series finals in 2024. Replacement coach Mike Earley had gone 30-26 in his first season, missing the postseason entirely.
This year looked different. Texas A&M went 39-13 in the regular season, hosting an NCAA Tournament regional – a real sign of progress. Then USC ended their run.
That didn’t sit well with everyone.
Amy Chestnut Calls Out Mike Earley on Social Media
Amy Chestnut – mother of Aggies utility player Travis Chestnut, 24 – posted her frustrations on Instagram late Thursday night. She didn’t hold back.
“Mike Earley had one of the most talented rosters and couldn’t even get out of his own regional. A roster loaded with talent that failed to reach its potential.”
The post drew significant backlash in the comments. Chestnut later edited it, but her feelings about her son’s playing time stayed clear.
“Travis’ ability to get on base, create pressure, manufacture runs, and impact games with his speed made him a valuable part of one of the best teams in program history. I wish he was utilized more this season to help the team….especially on the bases! The truth is, there was more than enough talent on this roster to do even more. A lot of players proved they could contribute when given the chance, and some simply didn’t get the opportunities they deserved.”
It’s a pointed criticism of a coach whose team just went 39-13.
There’s context worth noting here, though. Chestnut made a similar post targeting Schlossnagle back in 2024 – the coach who took Texas A&M to the College World Series finals. It’s a pattern that puts her latest comments in a different light.
