Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu has teamed up with Icelandic pop star Laufey for a dance collaboration that’s delighting fans across social media. The pair recently posted a video on Instagram showing them performing the opening choreography to PinkPantheress’ “Stateside” — the same song Liu skated to during her memorable gala performance at this year’s Winter Olympics.

The musical connection between Liu and Laufey runs deeper than just this video. The figure skating champion used Laufey’s song “Promise” for her short program — the performance that helped her secure a bronze medal before her eventual gold-medal victory.

Since her triumph in Milan, Liu has become one of the Olympics’ biggest breakout stars. Her Instagram following has exploded to over 8 million — a testament to her newfound global fame as the first American woman to win the women’s singles event in 24 years.

Their chemistry is undeniable.

In their joint post, Laufey wrote “welcome to the party,” while PinkPantheress herself commented with an enthusiastic “OKAAAYYYY.” The official US Figure Skating account couldn’t help joining in, adding: “You have our attention.”

Interestingly, this friendship didn’t start after Liu’s Olympic glory. Back in September, Liu attended Laufey’s San Francisco concert wearing her competition dress and carrying her world championship medal. Laufey spotlighted her during the show’s “Best Dressed Guest” segment.

“You guys, she’s like the best figure skater in the world. Do you understand what this means for my eight-year-old figure skating heart?” Laufey told the crowd that night — words that proved surprisingly prophetic when Liu claimed gold just five months later.

Despite her meteoric rise to fame, Liu has been careful about managing her commitments. She withdrew from the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships in March, citing her packed schedule and not having enough time to prepare properly after the Olympics.

Liu’s post-Olympic calendar has been filled with high-profile appearances. She’s made the rounds on major TV shows including The Tonight Show, Today, and 60 Minutes. In late March, she even presented an award to Taylor Swift at the iHeartRadio Music Awards — further cementing her crossover from sports star to mainstream celebrity.
