Tiger Woods’ latest off-course incident has professional golfers speaking up – and they’re not holding back about what they think needs to happen.
Six-time major champion Nick Faldo, who handed Woods his first green jacket after the 1997 Masters, already said he thinks the golf world hasn’t been critical enough of Woods. Faldo was the former world No. 1 who watched Woods dominate the sport for years.
Now Jason Day is adding his voice to the conversation.
The 2015 PGA Champion and former world No. 1 says it’s time for Woods to own up to his actions and recognize how they could put others at risk.
Day Calls Woods’ Alleged DUI ‘Selfish’
Speaking to reporters on Monday ahead of the 2026 Masters, Day didn’t mince words. He started by acknowledging his deep respect for Woods and what he’s meant to his career.
“He was my hero – he is my hero. The reason why I play golf is because of this tournament and Tiger.”
Day went on to express sympathy for the scrutiny Woods faces. “It’s hard to see him go through what he’s going through, and especially under the microscope… it must be hard to be who he is and have everything, everyone look on, kind of down on him.”
But that sympathy only went so far.
Jason Day sums it up pretty well about Tiger Woods:
"I look at it and go, he's just a human being like everyone else and we have struggles. It's unfortunate, the only thing that I don't understand is that it's a little bit selfish of him to drive and put other people in harm's… pic.twitter.com/eoXwZbwh5L

Day’s comments acknowledge Woods as human – someone who struggles like everyone else. Yet there’s a clear line between personal struggles and putting others in danger.
Woods’ influence on golf can’t be overstated. His impact shaped an entire generation of players, including Day himself. That reverence explains why so many in the sport have been reluctant to criticize him publicly over the years.
This incident appears to be different though.
The willingness of top players to speak out suggests a shift in how the golf community is responding to Woods’ behavior. Despite his legendary status and what he’s done for the sport, there’s growing consensus that some actions cross a line that even his accomplishments can’t excuse.
