Rob Schneider sparked outrage Friday by calling for the return of mandatory military service in the U.S. amid escalating tensions with Iran. The 62-year-old comedian, who has never served in the military himself, made the controversial statement on social media.
“We must once again recommit ourselves to one Nation under God, indivisible. Therefore, we must restore the military draft for our Nation’s young people,” Schneider wrote. “Each and every American, at eighteen years of age, must serve two years of military service.”

Sopranos Star Delivers Scathing Response
The response was swift and overwhelmingly negative. Michael Imperioli, best known for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos, delivered perhaps the most devastating comeback.
“I’ve got a better idea. Let’s just send Rob to Iran to perform his comedy. They will surrender immediately and unconditionally,” Imperioli posted on Instagram.

This isn’t the first time Schneider has faced public mockery from fellow comedians. The exchange recalls a memorable moment when the late Norm Macdonald roasted Schneider during an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show years ago.
The current Iran conflict began in late February with coordinated military strikes by the Trump administration and Israel targeting Iranian infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and leadership positions.
While anxiety about conscription continues to grow, the Trump administration has stated they don’t currently plan to reinstate the draft. Given the administration’s history with factual statements, many Americans remain skeptical of these assurances.
Schneider’s comments come at a particularly sensitive time as casualty reports from the conflict continue to mount – making his call for drafting young Americans all the more controversial.
The actor, whose recent work includes voice roles and direct-to-streaming comedies, has increasingly used his platform for political commentary in recent years.
