Sydney Sweeney could face legal consequences after her promotional stunt for her new lingerie brand took an unauthorized turn at one of Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks.
The actress reportedly climbed the Hollywood sign and draped bras over the famous letters – a move that might result in criminal trespass or vandalism charges. While her production team secured filming permits from FilmLA, they apparently didn’t have permission to physically interact with the sign.
This isn’t just speculation. TMZ obtained an email from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce (which owns the sign) clearly stating that Sweeney’s team was informed they couldn’t shoot or use footage without prior approval.
“Sydney got a permit from FilmLA to shoot the Hollywood Sign, but she did not have permission to touch or climb the sign itself … and, like the bras, the permit had strings attached,” sources told the publication.
Career Momentum Meets Controversy
The timing is particularly awkward for Sweeney, who’s riding high on the massive success of “The Housemaid.” Her thriller co-starring Amanda Seyfried is projected to reach $400 million globally against a modest $25 million budget – cementing her status as a bankable star.
This controversy comes just days before her brand launch.
The lingerie line – named “Syrn” – has significant financial backing from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Their business relationship might explain why Sweeney was among the exclusive guests at Bezos’ Italian wedding celebration last summer.
Syrn is scheduled to officially launch this Wednesday, January 28. The brand has been teased on social media with minimalist imagery, creating buzz among Sweeney’s fanbase.

Despite the potential legal issues, Sweeney’s career momentum shows no signs of slowing. She’s set to make a cameo appearance in the highly anticipated “The Devil Wears Prada 2” later this year. Additionally, fans can expect to see her return as Cassie Howard in the third and final season of HBO’s acclaimed drama “Euphoria” – a role that helped establish her as one of Hollywood’s most compelling young talents.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce hasn’t yet announced if they’ll pursue formal charges against the actress.
