Tom Brady Mispronounced Landon Dickerson Name Causing Offensive Gaffe on National TV

Tom Brady experienced an uncomfortable on-air moment during Sunday’s nationally televised Eagles-Cowboys game when he stumbled over Eagles guard Landon Dickerson’s name, creating what some viewers interpreted as a racial slur.

The incident occurred late in the 4th quarter as Brady was analyzing a critical play where Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa broke through Philadelphia’s offensive line to sack quarterback Jalen Hurts.

While describing the replay, the seven-time Super Bowl champion accidentally called the Eagles lineman “Nickerson” instead of Dickerson – creating an unfortunate verbal blend that immediately caught viewers’ attention.

Social media erupted with clips of the gaffe, though the mistake likely stemmed from Brady blending the final “n” sound in “Landon” with “Dickerson” rather than any intentional misspeak. It’s similar to phonetic challenges that occur with certain name combinations.

Brady himself has acknowledged his broadcasting learning curve. “I understand I’m a long ways from being a finished product as a broadcaster, but I really enjoy the opportunity and I am very grateful to all the people that I work with every week,” he told The Hollywood Reporter after completing his rookie season in the booth.

Now midway through his second year as Fox Sports’ lead NFL analyst, Brady has shown improvement over his initial 2024 efforts. However, many industry observers note he’s still developing the broadcasting skills needed to justify Fox’s massive investment – a 10-year, $375 million contract that remains the largest in sports broadcasting history.
