It looks like Kanye West — or is it Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West now? — is teaming up with a high-profile pastor to bring his popular “Sunday Service” to Texas. According to a report from TMZ, Kanye and his choir will be making the trip to Houston for a Sunday night performance at Joel Osteen’s megachurch.
“Kanye used to be about nothing greater than himself. Now it’s all about a higher power,” a source told TMZ.
According to the report, ‘Ye will be joining Osteen at the pulpit for a 20 or 30-minute conversation — surely it will be riveting. Then, later in the day, Kanye and his choir will perform their gospel renditions of past Kanye West hits and music from his recent album, Jesus is King.
From the report:
We’re told the plan is for Kanye to show up at Joel’s 11 AM service in Houston this coming Sunday at the Lakewood Church. Kanye will walk up to the pulpit and have a conversation with Joel that will last between 20 and 30 minutes. Our sources say Joel wants his congregation — which stands 45,000 strong — and his TV audience — which stands at 10 million in the U.S. alone — to hear how Kanye has overcome significant adversity in his life.
Kanye and Osteen have been talking more regularly in recent months and have reportedly built a friendship. With Kanye’s seemingly genuine dedication to Christianity and turning his focus from hip-hop to gospel, Osteen now seems comfortable enough to welcome ‘Ye into his place of worship.
The service will be broadcast live on SiriusXM.
It should be quite a spectacle.
