13-Year-Old Double Murder Suspect on the Run After Escaping Custody

A teen known only as Jericho W. is on the run after escaping the custody of regional social services in North Carolina. The 13-year-old is a double murder suspect and is facing two counts of first-degree murder and other charges related to robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Jericho has been in custody since October 14, according to the News & Observer.

“The juvenile was in custody of the NC Department of Public Safety Transport Team,” a Robeson County Sheriff’s Office rep wrote on Facebook. “We currently have helicopters from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshals from Wilmington and Fayetteville, Lumberton Police, and Sheriff’s deputies are searching for him. The Robeson District Attorney’s Office has been on hand as well.”

Earlier in October, Jericho and 19-year-old Derrick Deshawn Hunt were charged with the murders of 34-year-old Frank Thomas and 33-year-old Adam Thomas.

“A juvenile escaped from the Robeson County Courthouse located at 500 N. Elm Street in Lumberton at approximately 12:10p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The division has notified local law enforcement and is cooperating fully with the investigation,” NC Public Safety wrote on Twitter along with the mugshot of Jericho.

Jericho had been in court earlier in the day for his murder charges before escaping custody. The teen was allegedly wearing leg restraints and no shoes at the time he got away.

Exact details on how he managed to escape have not been reported.
