Bryan Cranston Discusses Final Walter White’s Final Words to Jesse Pinkman

Bryan Cranston reprised his role as Walter White in the Breaking Bad movie El Camino. During the movie, Walter and Jessie Pinkman were reunited for a flashback scene that takes us back to season 2.

In that scene, Walter and Pinkman met at a diner after a cooking session and Cranston revealed what that moment meant to him as he reflected back on the Walter White character.

It was a much more innocent version of Walter White before he turned full Heisenberg and he even delivered what may be the final lines we will ever hear from Walt.

So, what did Cranston take from that final moment?

“I’m glad you pointed that out because that resonated with me greatly and really helped me understand the frame of mind that Walter White was in at the time. When I read that script and read that line, I went, ‘Oh, wow. That’s where he is. That’s right.’ He was so filled with ennui when he was teaching to a classroom full of students who didn’t care, and he lost his spark, he lost his fire, his purpose. He lost his way. That was Walter White when we first met him,” Cranston said, via Entertainment Weekly.

And then, out of this extraordinary set of circumstances of his own impending demise, he makes this decision to do what he does and ironically finds greatness in it, finds fulfillment in it, even though he knew very well what he was doing was poisoning the world. It’s such an odd juxtaposition to imagine him reconciling that. But I do believe that every person on this planet is looking for their own personal empowerment. And that’s where Walter White found his — in the simple beauty and mathematical equation of chemistry.”

We previously learned about all of the secrecy that went into filming that scene and it was well worth the wait.

When all is said and done, the diner scene will be the final moment Breaking Bad fans have to see Walter White and we get to remember him when he was still a lovable character.
