Colin Kaepernick to the Chiefs? NFL Experts Say it is Possible

The Kansas City Chiefs are crossing their fingers and holding their breath as the team waits for an injury update on star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes suffered a nasty knee injury on Thursday, October 17 and there is fear that he could be out for the remainder of the year.

If the injury does turn out to be season-ending, the Chiefs will have to look at all possibilities as they attempt to remain a serious Super Bowl contender.

One name that immediately came up as a possible replace is former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Colin Kaepernick, who recently sent a memo to teams around the league saying that he is ready to return to the field.

And while Kaepernick’s name often comes up every time there is a quarterback injury, there are some deep connections that actually show there could be a possibility of the move going down.

“Don’t think I’ve said this about any team/situation in 3 years but if Mahomes has surgery and is out for the year Andy Reid is one of the few coaches who wouldn’t be afraid to sign Kaepernick AND could design a creative offense to best utilize his skillset,” former NFL player turned football podcaster Ross Tucker wrote on Twitter.

Echoing the possibility, NFL insider Albert Breer added additional information that shows why a deal between the two would make sense.

“Andy Reid actually hired Chris Ault — Kaepernick’s college coach at Nevada — as a consultant when he got the Chiefs job, to try and modernize his offense with spread concepts. Which helped set the table to get more out of Alex Smith, who played for Urban Meyer at Utah,” Breer wrote.

We’ll have to see if Reid really is ready and willing to pull the trigger if Mahomes is out for the remainder of the season.

Up next for the Chiefs is a primetime clash against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football on October 27.
