British actress Jameela Jamil admits to almost committing suicide six years ago. Jamil’s tweet came during World Mental Health Day when she urged anyone who has similar issues to seek help. The actress is know for her work on NBC’s hit comedy series The Good Place.

The 33-year old took to Twitter to reveal her heartbreaking story during World Mental Health Day. The actress also admitted that she went to seek help for her PTSD. Jamil’s tweet reads: ‘Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay This month, six years ago, I tried to take my own life. I’m so lucky that I survived, and went on to use EMDR to treat my severe PTSD.’
She continued her tweet by asking anyone who has similar mental health issues to seek help: ‘I urge you to hang on just a bit longer and ask for help if you need it. Because things can turn around. I promise.’

Jamil started her career by appearing on the E4 show Music Zone in 2008. Soon afterward, she became a presenter for the online fashion advice show The Closet. From 2011 to 2014, Jamil was a contributing writer for a women’s monthly magazine called Company. Jamil would go on to replace Reggie Yates on BBC Radio 1. She went on to become the first female solo presenter of the BBC Radio 1 chart show.
Backlash And Controversy

Jamil recently received backlash for claiming she wasn’t educated of George Bush’s presidency and accused of living in privilege. She later fired back with the following: ‘I was deaf, abused and physically disabled and broke… with no internet or cable and two parents who didn’t finish their educations or ever discuss politics. The height of privilege.’
The British actress is no stranger to activism and making controversial comments. In May 2019, Jamil revealed she had an abortion when she was young. Jamil also made charity appearances in the past, including appearing on C4 “Orange Rockcorps 2009”, helping a concert raise funds for local community projects.
Jamil’s been a critic of diet shakes and the consumption of suppressant products. She created a petition which focused on preventing celebrities from “promoting toxic diet products on social media.”
Jamil also made it clear that cancer has made a significant impact in her life and that she wouldn’t be made fun of by what she wore. After criticized for wearing a floral dress and sharing it on social meida, Jamil responded with: ‘I would just like to say, that as someone who has been chronically ill my whole life, and had cancer twice, I find it EXTREMELY offensive that there is a cultural taboo around aging.” The actress continued by writing, ‘Those of us who fight for our lives and those who lost that fight young, deserve more respect.’
The actress has had coeliac disease and severe food allergies in the past. She also experienced a car accident when she was 17, resulting in spine damage. In 2015, she had a breast cancer scare following the discovery of a lump, which turned out not to be cancerous.
Jamil auditioned for the hosting role for the show Misery Index in 2019. The actress now appears on NBC’s hit comedy series The Good Place as Tanhani Al-Jamil. NBC recently renewed the series for a fourth and final series, which premiered on September 26, 2019.
