The bizarre and sad Antonio Brown saga continues. After being released by two teams in a matter of weeks, the former NFL wide receiver took to social media to claim he was retiring. It was the second time in weeks that Brown teased the end of his career, but then he switched course.
Brown began going after everyone on Twitter — like safety Eric Weddle — with strange strings of tweets that really didn’t make any sense.
Now, in his latest Instagram post, we can officially say that Brown has lost his mind.
Brown shared a photo that depicts himself as boxing legend Muhammad Ali with the quote “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” — cute play on the “AB” nickname, Antonio.
At this point, thanks to his own antics, it seems highly unlikely that any team in the league will add his baggage to their locker room.
Brown forced his way out of Oakland after a preseason filled with absurd drama stemming from the wide receiver’s frost-bitten feet to threatening to retire over an issue with his league-approved helmet. The Raiders acquired Brown in the offseason via a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers but they ultimately decided the headaches weren’t worth it.
Brown then was a member of the New England Patriots before his second release in weeks after multiple sexual assault allegations and reportedly sending threatening messages to one of his accusers.
Throughout his career in the NFL, Brown has hauled in 837 catches for 11,207 yards and 74 touchdowns. Last season, Brown recorded 104 catches for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns. In each of the last 6 seasons, Brown has recorded at least 100 catches and 1,000 yards. The Patriots opened the season with a blowout win over Brown’s former team, the Steelers.
