The Cincinnati football program will take the field on Saturday, September 14 with their 150th-anniversary heritage uniforms from Under Armour when they take on the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. Ahead of the official unveiling of the new uniforms, Under Armour provided some new details about the classic look.
According to Under Armour, the throwback looks and gear pay homage to a classic logo that was used during the Sandy Koufax era.
“The mascot logo used for the sideline gear and fan apparel never made it onto the football uniforms during that era, but another Bearcats sports team – including a Hall of Fame baseball player – made use of the icon for their letterman jackets during the 1950s and 1960s,” Under Armour said.
“En route to becoming one of the greatest pitchers in history with three Cy Young awards in four years, Major League great and Cincinnati alum Sandy Koufax pitched for the school in 1954, compiling a 3-1 record and a 2.81 earned run average for the Bearcats that season under coach Ed Jucker.”
Kickoff between the Bearcats and Miami (Ohio) is set for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN U. The team will then finish off the month on September 28 on the road against the Marshall Thundering Herd before kickoff off October on the 4th with their toughest test of the season against the No. 17 UCF Knights.
