Elon Alumnus Chris Edwards & Sister Killed by Mother in Murder-Suicide

Chris Edwards, a graduate from Elon University, was found dead alongside his younger sister Erin and mother in Cobb County, Georgia. According to reports, Edwards’ mother killed her children before ultimately taking her own life in a murder-suicide.

Chris was the digital content manager for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment after graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Media & Arts Entertainment. His sister was reportedly a student at Boston University, according to local news reports.

During his time at Elon, Edwards co-hosted a weekly radio show and was a television anchor the school’s shows Elon Phoenix Weekly and One on One Sports, according to the Elon News Network.

“Chris was and forever will be my twin. We did nearly everything together on campus and still talked nearly every day,” wrote Ethan Gaskin, who co-hosted the radio show The Urban Power Hour with Edwards, in a Facebook post remembering his friend. “We could finish each other’s sentences and commonly guess what each other were thinking. We loved each other to the fullest extent brothers can and were proud of it.”

Police found the bodies in Cobb County after Edwards’ father — who is a neurological surgeon and a member of the board of trustees for the Morehouse School of Medicine — became worried about his son’s whereabouts. When police responded to Edwards’ mother’s townhouse, they found the two children and their mother dead.

Another student, One on One Sports host Andrew Vendelis added: “Chris was the person who got me introduced to sports journalism on Elon’s campus. Through One on One Sports, Chris’ mentoring and leadership allowed for me to explore different ways of approaching sports journalism that I still use in my toolkit to this day. Myself and One on One Sports can never repay Chris for how much he contributed to Elon and our organization, and we’ll miss him dearly.”

Our deepest condolences go out to Edwards’ family and friends during this incredibly difficult and tragic time.
