FOX News host Tucker Carlson is once again coming to the defense of President Donald Trump. Following the back-to-back mass shootings over the weekend, white supremacy was blamed due to an anti-immigrant manifesto from the shooter in El Paso, Texas that echoed rhetoric heard at Trump rallies.
Well, if you believe Tucker Carlson, white supremacy shouldn’t be blamed because it is not a problem in the country.
In fact, Carlson thinks white supremacy is a hoax.
“If you were to assemble a list, a hierarchy of concerns of problems this country faces, where would white supremacy be on the list? Right up there with Russia probably,” he said. “It’s actually not a real problem in America. The combined membership of every white supremacist organization in this country would be able to fit inside a college football stadium.”
“This is a country where the average person is getting poorer, where the suicide rate is spiking—’white supremacy, that’s the problem’—this is a hoax. Just like the Russia hoax, it’s a conspiracy theory used to divide the country and keep a hold on power.”
He added: “the whole [white supremacy issue] is a lie.”
Carlson also responded to those who are calling out Donald Trump for enabling white supremacy.
“It’s not the job of this show to defend the president and everything he says,” Carlson said after airing a clip demonstrating the media criticisms of Trump’s speech on Monday. “Some things we are not going to defend. But in point of fact, he never endorsed white supremacy or came close to endorsing white supremacy. That’s just a lie. But he condemned it anyway. Their response, ‘he didn’t really mean it.'”
Following the shooting in El Paso, it was revealed that shooter Patrick Crucius was responsible for a troubling manifesto that circulated online. The manifesto — which was titled “The Inconvenient Truth” — makes references to Christchurch mosque shooter Brenton Tarrant and shows a heavy disdain for Hispanic immigrants. It is currently being investigated by the FBI.
“In general, I support the Christchurch shooter and his manifesto. This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion. Some people will think this statement is hypocritical because of the nearly complete ethnic and cultural destruction brought to the Native Americans by our European ancestors, but this just reinforces my point,” the alleged manifesto begins.
It continues, “Even if other non-immigrant targets would have a greater impact, I can’t bring myself to kill my fellow Americans. My ideology has not changed for several years. My opinions on automation, immigration, and the rest predate Trump and his campaign for president. I putting this here because some people will blame the President or certain presidential candidates for the attack. This is not the case. I know that the media will probably call me a white supremacist anyway and blame Trump’s rhetoric. The media is infamous for fake news. Their reaction to this attack will likely just confirm that.”
