The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on August 26 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. With approximately one month until the awards ceremony, the official nominations were released by MTV.
In what has become a music awards routine, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift lead the way with 10 nominations apiece.
Lil Nas X, one of the year’s breakout stars thanks to his viral hit “Old Town Road,” also picked multiple nominations in top categories including Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Music Video, and Best Collaboration.
“It’s been an incredible year in music and this group of nominees perfectly reflect the rich pop music landscape,” Bruce Gillmer, Head of Music and Music Talent for Viacom said in a statement announcing the awards. “We can’t wait to see the outcome, once the fans weigh in. It’s going to be an awesome, unforgettable evening!”
