Los Angeles Angels Pitcher Tyler Skaggs Found Dead in Hotel Room at Age 27

Tyler Skaggs, a starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, has passed away at age 27. The team announced Skaggs’ death on Monday, July 1. Skaggs was found unresponsive in his hotel room before ultimately being pronounced dead. The Angels were in Texas to play the Rangers on Monday night, but the game was canceled following the news of his death.

Skaggs had pitched four innings for the Angels two days before his death.

“It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always be, an important part of the Angels family,” the organization said in a statement “Our thoughts and prayers with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”

A cause of death for Skaggs has not immediately been revealed. However, authorities do not suspect any foul play.

“This afternoon at 2:18 p.m., the Southlake Police Department responded to a call of an unconscious man in a room in the Hilton hotel at 1400 Plaza Place. Officers arrived and found the male unresponsive and he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the police department said in a statement. “At this time, no foul play is suspected. This investigation is ongoing and we will release pertinent information as it is available.

Skaggs is survived by his wife, Carli.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred paid tribute to Skaggs in a statement.

“I am deeply saddened by today’s tragedy in Texas. All of us at Major League Baseball extend our deepest condolences to Tyler’s wife Carli, their family, their friends and all of his Angels’ teammates and colleagues. We will support the Angels’ organization through this most difficult period, and we will make a variety of resources available to Tyler’s teammates and other members of the baseball family.”
