United States women’s soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe was blasted by President Donald Trump after making comments about her lack of desire to visit the White House if the USWNT wins the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. Trump was offended by Rapinoe’s comments, but a celebratory trip may not be totally out of the question.
Enter Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Following the United States’ win over France to advance to the tournament semifinals, the New York Representative took to social media to invite Rapinoe and the USWNT to the nation’s capital for a tour of the U.S. House of Representatives instead of visiting the White House.
“It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like,” the freshman New York congresswoman wrote on Twitter.
Rapinoe wasted no time accepting the invitation from the Democratic party’s rising star.
Consider it done @AOC 🥳

After Rapinoe said that she wouldn’t go to “f***ing White House” Trump had a temper tantrum on Twitter.
“Women’s soccer player, Megan Rapinoe just stated that she is “not going to the F…ing White House if we win.” Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House,” Trump tweeted after learning of the comments.
“I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet……..invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
Up next for the United States women is a meeting with England on Tuesday, July 2. With a win, the USWNT will be back in the finals for an attempt at another championship.
