Jordan Lindsey, a 21-year-old student from Loyola Marymount University, was enjoying a vacation in the Bahamas when tragedy struck. The junior Environmental Communications major was on a tour boat with her parents en route to a snorkeling and swimming with wild pigs adventure.
While she was in the water, a horrifying attack took place with three sharks involved.
According to NBC 4, Lindsey had her right arm torn off and suffered bites to both legs and her buttocks. She was rushed to the shore and transported to Doctor’s Hospital in Nassau where she was pronounced dead due to blood loss.
“The Ministry of Tourism, on behalf of the Government and the people of The Bahamas expresses its condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim of Wednesday’s shark attack off Rose Island, near New Providence,” the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas said in a statement.
The Shark Research Institute says that her death marks the first fatal shark attack in the Bahamas in more than a decade.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Lindsey’s family to help cover the cost of transporting her body back home and her funeral. Any remaining donations will go to The Gentle Barn in her home state of California to continue with her passion for helping animals.
Jordan Lindsey was a beloved daughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend. On June 26, 2019 Jordan was tragically killed from a shark attack in the Bahamas. Jordan had the most beautiful, gentle soul and she will be missed deeply. Jordan’s body needs to be transported from the Bahamas back to her home of California, which is very expensive.
