Two members of the University of Minnesota wrestling team have found themselves in trouble with the law. According to reports, Gable Steveson and Dylan Martinez were arrested in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, June 15 on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct with an object.
A report from KSTP-TV says that Steveson and Martinez allegedly penetrated a victim with an object.
Further details have not been released at this time.
“We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information,” a statement from the university’s athletic department read. “These students have been suspended from all team activity pending further information. Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time.”
The two wrestlers were arrested at different locations on Saturday night.

According to jail records, the men were arrested Saturday night at different times and different locations in Minneapolis. Steveson was apprehended at a home on 26th Avenue Southeast in the Como neighborhood of Minneapolis. Martinez was taken into custody at the home where he and other wrestlers lived on 14th Avenue Southeast.
Steveson is a nationally ranked heavyweight wrestler who was the top-ranked heavyweight in January. He finished the NCAA Tournament with a third-place finish. Steveson held a 35-2 record.
Martinez, meanwhile, was a two-time California community college champion and had transferred to Minnesota from Fresno City College in California. He redshirted during the previous season.
This is not the first time the University of Minnesota wrestling team has been in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons. In 2016, coach J Robinson was fired for his handling of an alleged drug ring involving Xanax. That incident led to the suspensions of four wrestlers. No criminal charges were filed in that incident with prosecutors citing a lack of evidence.
