Triple Crown season is upon us with the 2019 Kentucky Derby set to take place on Saturday, May 4. But first, it’s time for the three-year-old fillies to take center stage at the 2019 Kentucky Oaks. The Kentucky Oaks, also known as “Lilies for the Fillies”, covers 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs in Louisville. It is held annually on the day before the Kentucky Derby.
The total purse for the race is $1.25 million, with the winner taking home $750,000.
This year, Kaleem Shah’s Bellafina is the heavy favorite, earning a whopping $1,060,000 during the Road to the Kentucky Oaks. Bellafina picked up 132 points to top the standings. The second favorite is Dunbar Road, with Restless Rider and Jaywalk following behind. Dunbar Road picked up just $49,500 during the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, while Restless Rider picked up $849,560 and Jaywalk brought home $1.4 million.
The Road to the Kentucky Derby races were held beginning in September 2018 and ending in April 2019.
