During Sunday’s episode of The Simpsons, Upstate New York was put on blast. Homer and company made their way to Niagra Falls at the beginning of the episode, before a parody song that absolutely roasted the entire region. From Buffalo to Rochester to even poor little Niskayuna, no one was safe.
The parody came to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” and included savage lines like “We’re headed to the one place that can never decline because it was never that great: Upstate New York.”
Other lines included:
Start watchin’ Fox News; Stop watchin’ your weight
There is no fancy part of it — upstate New York.
They’re fond of their booze; Hot wing sauce is great
I’m gonna clog my heart in it — upstate New York.

Sure, the jokes were a little obvious, but it was still entertaining. Well, unless you are from the Upstate New York region, it appears.
A senior advisor to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo seemed especially upset and outlined some of the perceived “cheap shots” to the Upstate New York area. Rich Azzopardi called the parody a “bunch of cheap shots” and even expanded his commentary on Twitter.
“There always remains work to be done but — dumb cheap shots aside — facts are facts: jobs are up, unemployment is down, millennials are coming back and it’s clear that Poochie was an uncredited writer on that episode,” he wrote. “However, I still want a Fighting Hellfish tattoo.”
Someone needs to lighten up.
