Kansas Teacher Crystal Smith Caught Kicking Kindergarten Student In Shocking Video

Crystal Smith, a former teacher at Bluejacket-Flint Elementary school in Shawnee, Kansas, was fired after shocking video surfaced from an incident in the library of the school involving the teacher and a five-year-old kindergarten student.
In the video, Smith can be seen aggressively grabbing the young student by the arm before kicking the child when she continued to lay on the ground. Initially, Smith was put on leave while the school investigated the incident and surveillance video before being officially fired on March 25.
The student informed her homeroom teacher of the incident, but it reportedly went unreported to school officials.

“As soon as we received a report of the incident, we began an investigation. Ms. Smith was never in contact with students after the report, and was fired at the earliest possible opportunity,” David A. Smith, chief communications officer for Shawnee Mission School District, said in an interview with Newsweek. “We are a humane organization, and that we always do everything in our power to care for all of our students.
“There was no question that we were going to do everything we could immediately to terminate that teacher and to look after that child. No child should have to experience that. It’s a horrible situation. We feel terrible about it and that person no longer works for us.”
The mother of the student said that her child suffered a red mark on her arm from the incident and confirmed that her teacher struck her. “I don’t like my teacher. She’s really mean. She hit me on my arm,” according to KCTV5.
The Shawnee Police department investigated the incident for battery and an attorney is pursuing a civil suit on behalf of the five-year-old girl. The Kansas City Star adds that the attorney, Dan Zmijewski, says that the girl is traumatized and “terrified of going back to school.”
