Donald Trump Complained About Losing Twitter Followers During Jack Dorsey Meeting

President Donald Trump met with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Tuesday, April 23. According to a report from the Washington Post, Trump spent a “significant” part of that meeting complaining about something that he viewed as unfair.

The Washington Post reports that Trump was complaining about losing followers and blamed Dorsey and his company for purposefully removing his followers. Trump also shared allegations that Twitter is targeting conservative accounts. The meeting came shortly after Trump took to his favorite social media platform to bash the company.

“Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on. Constantly taking people off list. Big complaints from many people. Different names-over 100 [million]. But should be much higher than that if Twitter wasn’t playing their political games,” Trump wrote. “No wonder Congress wants to get involved – and they should. Must be more, and fairer, companies to get out the WORD!”

The Hill adds:

Twitter has said that follower counts can change as it works to crack down on bots and get rid of fake accounts. Dorsey reportedly emphasized this in the meeting and noted that he has also lost followers as a result.

The meeting was a 30-minute closed-door session between Trump, Dorsey, and other company executives regarding “the health of the public conversation on Twitter.”

Dorsey later added in an email, “As you know, I believe that conversation, not silence, bridges gaps and drives towards solutions. I have met with every world leader who has extended an invitation to me, and I believe the discussions have been productive, and the outcomes meaningful.

“Some of you will be very supportive of our meeting [with] the president, and some of you might feel we shouldn’t take this meeting at all. In the end, I believe it’s important to meet heads of state in order to listen, share our principles and our ideas.”

So while it doesn’t look like much came out of the meeting, it has become pretty clear that Dorsey definitely cares about his Twitter following.
