Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, and Rihanna are set to drop their long-awaited Guava Island indie film this week. The official unveiling will come at Coachella on Friday night, but you don’t need to be at the music festival to see what the project is all about.
All you have to do is be in front of your computer either Saturday to catch the film. The best part? It will be free.
Thanks to Amazon Prime will be live streaming the Childish Gambino film beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. If you want to watch Guava Island on the go, all you have to do is download the Amazon Prime app.
Guava Island — which was filmed in Cuba — features Glover, Rihanna, and Letitia Wright, who was a breakout star in Black Panther. The film was written by Gambino’s brother, Stephen Glover, and directed by frequent collaborator Hiro Murai, who also produces and directs music videos for Gambino and episodes of his hit television show Atlanta.
“I’m really humbled having the opportunity to present something this timely and timeless. Between Rihanna and the people of Cuba, this is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on,” said Glover in a recent interview.
Guava Island, which is written by Stephen Glover and based on a story by Royalty, is an expansion of Glover’s idea of freedom. In creative and business terms. The film was produced by Fam Udeorji, Carmen Cuba, Donald Glover & New Regency, who also financed the project, with executive producers Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, and Ibra Ake. Amazon Studios acquired the exclusive distribution rights to the film for Amazon Prime Video in a competitive bidding situation while it was still in post-production.
