NBA legend Michael Jordan is a very wealthy man. The Jordan Brand redefined the sneaker game and continues to be highly sought after, and he has made millions and millions of dollars from other endorsements throughout his career.
But while Jordan had plenty of endorsements, there is one that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with and it is for a hilarious reason.
In an old interview with Playboy‘s Mark Vancil — was brought to our attention from Complex — Jordan revealed that he once turned down a $1 million endorsement because he didn’t want to utter two words: Beanee Weenees.
“Two or three years ago Quaker Oats came to me to endorse Van Kamp’s pork and beans — Beanee Weenees, I think it was called,” Jordan said. “You ever heard of Beanee Weenees pork and beans? It was close to a million bucks a year. I’m saying, Beanee Weenees? How can I stand in front of a camera and say I’ll eat Beanee Weenees?”
What a legend. There’s a reason M.J. is the GOAT.
Today, Jordan is worth a whopping $1.9 billion and is the principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets, so things worked out pretty well for him. The refusal to give a little $1 million “Beanee Weenees” shoutout definitely didn’t send him into financial crisis. He also happened to rack up six NBA titles, six NBA Finals MVPs, five NBA MVP awards, was a 14-time NBA All-Star and is still considered the greatest basketball player to ever hit the court.
All hail Michael Jordan, and sorry about your luck, Beanee Weenees (I just wanted to type that one more time).
