Chris Hemsworth To Star As Iconic Wrestler In Netflix Movie Directed By Todd Phillips

As if starring as the mythical Thor isn’t enough for Chris Hemsworth, he will now star as the closest thing that the United States ever had to a real-life Thor, and that’s none other than Hulk Hogan.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth has signed on to play WWE icon Hulk Hogan, aka Terry Gene Bollea.

Written by Scott Silver, who wrote the upcoming Joker film, the Hulk Hogan biopic will be directed by Todd Phillips, known for his work directing projects such as Old School, The Hangover trilogy, War Dogs, and Hoker.

In another coup for the streaming giants — who seemed poised to nab their first Academy Award for Best Picture thanks to Alfonso CuarĂ³n’s Roma — negotiations are currently underway that would see the film premiere on Netflix.

Sources said that the film “will not delve into” Hogan’s recent years that have been marred by scandal and controversy (i.e. the sex tape, Gawker lawsuit, racist comments, etc), but will instead “focus on his rise and is described as an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.”

Additionally, the Hulkster Terry Bollea himself will serve as a consultant and executive producer on the film.

At this time, it is not clear what other characters are set to appear in the film or if any other actors have signed on to appear.

The only question now is … who will they get to play Andre the Giant? Because as anyone who knows anything about wrestling knows, you can’t tell the story of Hulk Hogan without Andre the Giant.
