Kentucky Teacher Arrested For Drinking & Sleeping With Teenager

Amy Hamilton, a 40-year-old former high school teacher in Oldham County, Kentucky, is facing charges after she allegedly had sex with a former teenager student.

According to investigating authorities, Hamilton — who taught for Oldham County Schools — allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old teenage boy in her home back in March 2018.

In addition to allegedly having sex with the teen, Hamilton reportedly gave the child alcohol — around nine beers — as Hamilton consumed bottles of wine, police say.

However, while the prosecutor’s office said Hamilton met the child while working in Meade County, she is not accused of having the sexual relationship with the student while she was a teacher in the district.

As a result of her alleged crimes, Harrison County Prosecutor Otto Schalk says Hamilton has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a felony offense, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which is a misdemeanor offense.

If found guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor, Hamilton faces a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.

After her arrest, Hamilton turned herself into the Harrison County Jail and was subsequently released on a $5,000 bond.

At this time, Hamilton’s first court date is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19.

As for why there has been an increase in teacher’s being charged with sex-related crimes over recent years, studies suggest that smartphones are the primary reason for the spike in illicit relationships, as it allows teachers to communicate with the minors without supervision.
