Mike Mayock Hired By Oakland Raiders As GM

Mike Mayock, one of the most well-respected NFL Draft analysts in the industry, now has an NFL job. On Monday, December 31, the first day after the conclusion of the regular season where most people are worried about losing jobs, Mayock was hired by the Oakland Raiders.
It was reported by Adam Schefter of the NFL Network that Mayock will be the team’s new general manager.
“Raiders are hiring NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock as their general manager, league sources tell ESPN. The announcement will be made as early as today,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.

Mayock was in attendance for the Raiders’ season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, which turned out to be a 35-3 shellacking of Oakland.┬áThe 60-year-old has no personnel experience in the NFL, but previously played in the league as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. He began his broadcasting career in 2005 with the NFL Network.
Former Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was fired in December by first-year coach Jon Gruden.
During his first season back as an NFL head coach, Gruden made a number of big moves which included trading away Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears and Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys. But as a result, the Raiders were able to stockpile draft picks that they can use to build for the future.
That will be an interesting aspect of the Mayock hire, considering he has a reputation as one of the best talent evaluators in the business.
