It’s a disease that is extremely contagious. No doctor can help you, the only thing that can help you is to graduate. Procrastination is a serious issue that can take over many students. Symptoms include complaining about homework, up until three in the morning, nonstop snacking, waiting till the last minute, and always doing something other than their homework. Procrastination is very hard to treat, but if you are in for the fight for the next four years of your life in college, listen to these tips. Get The Bigger Work Done First

It’s going to suck doing it, but once you get that big project or paper over with, you will feel so good and accomplished. Then you can relax and know all you have to do are the smaller assignments that are simple and easy. Get the crucial work done first, the ones that need to be finished that week then once you are done you can take on the ones that are due the next week. It’s best to write out a list of big assignments to smaller ones, and once you are done, you can check them off.


Look For Shortcuts

Shortcuts aren’t the best and maybe the laziest choice, but it is a valid choice. There is a quote by Bill Gates, “I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it”. And that’s it, it could be a hard assignment that will take up a lot of your time, but at that moment you could have more to do later on. You need to get it done fast, so find a shortcut. Find a summary online and get creative. Get it done, so you don’t have to be up till four in the morning getting the rest of your homework finished. But, if you do choose the shortcut path of the map, make sure it’s useful and not harmful in your work.


Take Away Your Biggest Distraction

Ah the distractions, our worst enemies when it comes to doing our work. It’s going to be hard, but you need to do it. Take any distractions and put them away. Put your phone in a drawer or turn it off. Separate yourself from your friends and roommate. And close down all tabs and other documents off of your computer so you can focus on the one task you need to get done. Stay focused on that one assignment, and once you are done, you can turn on your phone and go back to being with your friends. Your distractions can be your reward when you finish your work.


Mentally Prepare Yourself

Focus on the power of motivation. Take some time to visualize yourself getting your work done and feeling that sense of relief when you are done. That little visualization and mental preparation can give you the motivation to get your work done. It’s like you are pumping yourself up to get your work done. You are getting ready to tackle your work. Think of your work as the enemy, attack and kill.


Force Yourself To Get Your Work Done

This is the obvious choice to not procrastinate is to force yourself to get all your work done. But, don’t hurt yourself when doing this. Take baby steps, tell yourself what you need to get done and then force yourself to finish that chunk of work before a particular time or day. This is one of the best solutions because you are hard on yourself to get everything done on time, while still getting a good grade in the process. Get over that feeling of not wanting to do your work. Take the initiative to finish your work early rather than the night before. You will be happy in the end.
