On Christmas morning, Jordan Peele — formerly the thicccer of Key & Peele & now acclaimed-director — dropped the first trailer for his new movie Us, which truly looks far scarier than Get Out.
Prior to the release of the trailer, not much was known about Us other than that it starred Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss, and was being billed as “aapple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ‘Segoe UI’, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, ‘Helvetica Neue’, sans-serif;”> new nightmare from the mind of Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.”
Well, fans didn’t have to wait until 2019 for answers about Us, as Peele went ahead and dropped the first thrilling look on Christmas morning.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Peele said that “the main idea that went into writing this film is that we’re our own worst enemy, and that idea created this monster, The Tethered.” Additionally, Peele said that he “wanted to forge this new mythology that explored our duality and the duality of the characters.”
And despite that fact that the trailer was dropped during prime Christmas-present-unwrapping-hour, reactions poured in from all corners of the internet, ranging from hilarious GIF reactions to legitimate plot predictions:

My family and I are already cooking up #Us theories. My dad and sister suggested the boy might be a link between the families. I corroborated this with the fact that the Dopple-boy has his mouth sealed (speak no evil?), and the real boy was the first to find one of Them. pic.twitter.com/OWLFdvuBb5

Here's my guess for #UsMovie's plot: mom's estranged twin sister experimented with cloning to try to replicate/steal what she sees as her twin's "perfect life". Clones are "tethered" to originals via a twin connection type effect.

I want to throw this theory out there now: Lupita being off-beat when she was trying to get the son on beat is probably on purpose. I bet you it’s going to be a significant plot detail/twist….favorite this.

So I’m calling the movie now
Lupita used to drive reckless and got into a fiery car accident. Killed the little girl was was the twin of the little boy. That’s why she isn’t driving in the trailer. Also why her doppelgänger has scorched eyebrows and explains burnt boy

Imma just go on record and say this is the first time in a while (or ever) since I’ve seen a Black Family in a movie and the entire family is dark skin. It may seem insignificant but it matters. #UsMovie #WatchYourself

I Got 5 on It is a song about going half on something to get a whole something so maybe the evil family is like the embodiment of the worst aspects of the good family being materialized or some shit like that. The weed be letting you know…….evil lurks

My #UsMovie theory: there’s a 5th family member who died that will be the most elusive/hardest to kill until the mother confronts the loss. Hence, I’ve got 5 On It.

Jordan Peele is making original horror movies.
No remakes or reboots.
This is soooo dope he’s making movies from his own vision. Bc it seems not many can do that anymore in the film industry. #UsMovie— Scarlet Bitch (@MXV3RICK) December 25, 2018
The doppelgängers are the physical manifestation of having to supress their real selves in the workplace, school, etc.
Suppressing anger over all of the microaggressions in day-to-day life took the form of their clones #UsMovie

observations from the #USMovie trailer
– Black dude bought a boat.
– Mom couldn’t snap on Rhythm to “I Got 5 On It”
– Family on vacation with no black friendsMovie sub line is “your biggest enemy is yourself”
Think about how to “fit in” the black family lost themselves

Here is the official synopsis for Us:
“Husband and wife Gabe and Adelaide Wilson take their children to their beach house, hoping to spend time with friends. Their serenity soon turns to tension and chaos when a group of “visitors” arrive uninvited.”
However, given what we saw in Get Out, predictions about Us are likely futile, as you know Peele is sure to have a twist or six up his sleeve.
Us which is directed by Jordan Peele and stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Anna Diop, will be released by Universal Pictures on March 15, 2019.
