The First Trailer For ‘The Lion King’ Is Utterly Spectacular

As we were all laying on our couches, desperately trying to fight off the impending post-first-meal-of-the-day nap, Disney went and dropped a bomb on the American public during one of the commercial breaks of the Redskins-Cowboys game by releasing the first trailer for the live-action adaption of The Lion King.

The latest of Disney’s live-action remakes — following the likes of Alice In WonderlandThe Jungle Book, Maleficent, Cinderella, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Beauty and the Beast, and Christopher Robin — The Lion King is easily the most anticipated of the lot, as it’s a staple of almost ever millennial’s childhood.

The hype train for the movie first took off about a year or so ago when the absolutely stacked cast was announced: Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa.

Well, the first trailer has officially put that hype train into hyperdrive, as everything from the voice work to the animation looks utterly spectacular.

The Lion King — which is directed by Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau — will be released in theaters on July 19, 2019.
