Arnold Palmer was born Sept. 10, 1929 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. “The King,” as he has been nicknamed, was one of the first sports superstars in the television age and earned 62 PGA Tour wins — which is fifth all-time — during his lengthy career. His achievements include four Masters Tournament wins, one U.S. Open win, and two wins in The Open Championship. In total, Palmer earned an impressive 95 professional wins.
Palmer passed away on Sept. 25, 2016, shortly after his 87th birthday while he was awaiting heart surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
