Judd Apatow Says That Bryan Cranston Auditioned For 'Pineapple Express'

Monday, August 6, marked the 10-year anniversary of the release of the stoner comedy classic Pineapple Expressand to commemorate the film’s 10th birthday, Seth Rogen — the star and writer of the movie — tweeted out a bunch of little-known fun facts about the film’s production.
In an epic 20-or-so Tweet thread, Rogen revealed all sorts of juicy behind-the-scenes details, including but not limited to:

Not wanting to let Rogen have all the fun, Judd Apatow, the 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up director who produced Pineapple Express, dropped in from the clouds to provide arguably the most interesting tidbit of all: that Bryan Cranston — Walter White himself — auditioned for the role of the drug dealer Ted Jones.
via Twitter:

“I’ve got one.  Bryan Cranston auditioned. He may have even read at a table read and I said “I don’t think he seems scary enough to seem like a real drug dealer.” If he did PE maybe the Breaking Bad people would have said, “not him, he always plays drug dealers.”

And based on his reaction, it appears that the near-Cranston-casting was news to Seth Rogen, too:
