At long last, the NFL season is finally upon us. Although it is preseason, it will be the first time this season in which fans can watch actual NFL football from the comfort of their living rooms. This contest will be between the Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens. Both teams missed the playoffs last season and will be looking to get off to a good start this season. Although most of the starters will not be playing for their respective teams, this game will still provide the coaching staffs a good opportunity to evaluate depth at every position. Expect this game to be close as the backups will be laying it all on the line to make their respective rosters.
apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, Helvetica Neue, sans-serif;”>The Baltimore Ravens, led by starting quarterback Joe Flacco, have struggled in recent seasons. So much so that the team decided to draft Flacco’s future replacement in Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson with the 32nd overall pick. Jackson will most likely play for a few drives in this game as he continues to adjust to the speed of playing in the NFL. Jackson won the Heisman trophy in college for his explosive runs and tremendous arm strength. Look for Jackson to showcase some of those skills this Thursday night in limited action.
The Chicago Bears have failed to make the playoffs for the last few seasons. However, the team did showcase a lot of potential last season due to the progression of several young stars on their active roster. However, it is almost a certainty that starting quarterback Mitchel Trubisky will not play this evening as the team will look to keep him healthy for the start of the season. Expect third-string quarterback Tyler Bray to see the majority of the snaps on offense as the Bears will look to win Coach Nagy his first official game with the Bears organization.
As for my prediction, I have to side with the Ravens. Baltimore has better quarterback depth than Chicago which will most likely decide the fate of this contest. The Bears are also adjusting to a new head coach which could lead to some initial growing pains and confusion amongst the players as they will look to get more acclimated to Coach Nagy’s system.
